Your donation – our commitment
Research on Johann Sebastian Bach’s life and works and on the extended Bach family of musicians belongs among the central tasks of the research institute. It hosts Bach scholars from all over the world and collaborates closely with other research institutions. The Bach Archive’s editorial projects include catalogues raisonnées of the music of the Bach family as well as the complete works of Johann Sebastian Bach and his two oldest sons, Wilhelm Friedemann and Carl Philipp Emanuel. Major long-term research projects address the history of the Leipzig St. Thomas cantorate; the Bach family and related musical documents in central-German communal, state, and church archives; and the Bach reception in Leipzig during the Mendelssohn-Schumann period. The Bach Archive publishes books, critical editions, facsimiles, documents, and pamphlets for scholarly and general audiences. A new named endowment funds shall be set up for this special purpose, apart from the Library and Museum Funds.

The Hans-Joachim-Schulze Fund (Library Fund) serves the development and further expansion of the collections. Income from this fund is used to purchase valuable materials and if necessary have them restored. The fund was established in honour of Prof. Hans-Joachim Schulze, distinguished Bach scholar and director of the Bach Archive (1992-2000), who deserved much credit for building up the research Museum Fund we would like to build up two existing restricted endowment funds totalling 1 million Euros, the capital of which presently amounts to about 15% of the desired goal.

The Christoph-Wolff-Museums Fund was established for organizing regular special exhibitions at the Bach Museum, for produce accompanying catalogues, and for expanding the multilingual audio-visual media terminals in the museum. Togehter with the Hans-Joachim-Schulze Fund we would like to build up two existing restricted endowment funds totalling 1 million Euros, the capital of which presently amounts to about 15% of the desired goal.
